The government is truly servicing the big banks as needed - JP Morgan fined $83 Million for breaking the law

The government is really getting comical these days.

First news in banks today was, that despite all the news releases that Bank of America did not need any additional cash to shore up it's books, that it was not in merger talks with JP Morgan, that it was not going to issue any more stock, Warren Buffet bails out Bank of America with $5 Billion.

Of course no charges of lying to their shareholders will be brought against bank of America by the SEC. Nor will there be any retribution from the FDIC, The Treasury Department or the Federal Reserve Bank.

Just after the market close, the Justice Department fines JP Morgan for breaking laws in lending and laundering money for Cubans.

Now take a minute and follow this scenario.

JP Morgan paid out over $16 Billion in bonuses last year which left the billion + share to divvy up $500 Million in profits. Let me state that again - $16 billion in bonuses to traders in stocks and bonds, the shareholders (and there are over 1 Billion shares outstanding) got to divvy up $500 million.

So the Justice Department stated that the bank broke the rules knowingly - "JPMorgan managers knew the loan violated the regulations against helping nations that proliferate weapons of mass destruction but didn't notify the government until March 2010."

With the Cuban money affair, the banks handled 1,711 wire money transfers - totaling $178 million dollars. Again, the bank knew "JPMorgan managers were given the results of an internal investigation of the transfers, the bank "failed to take adequate steps to prevent further transfers,"

Now think about this for a minute - $16 Billion in bonuses. That means traders are making as much (or close to it) money as the fines the Justice Department is making JP Morgan pay!

How is this type of fine ever going to JP Morgan suffer in any way, shape or form?

No managers were told to be fired, no one was charged with a crime - the Justice Department just said,"Give us some money - $83 Million sounds good, and don't to it again!"

Unfortunately, that "don't do it again" has not worked well in the past. Banks have a history of paying fines for breaking the law, only to be fined again for breaking the same laws a year or two later.

Wondering when the American public is ever going to realize that the government is not doing anything for it's citizens but it is doing all it can for the banks and conglomerates.

How can a small fine (Right, the news report states it was the largest fine ever - but lets be real - $16 Billion in bonuses vs. a a fine for $83 Million. I'd take those consequence for breaking the law everyday of the week!)

Now, have a regular citizen get caught doing illegal wire transfers and sending/giving aid to get nuclear stuff to Syria - well, that would entail a heavy fine for the individual and probably jail time.

Of course regular, average citizens don't toss $1 Million + at Congressman and Presidential campaigns, either.

Nor do they have a lobbying company that spends over $1 Billion to get lunches, drinks, golf games, jet rides, etc. for our Senators, House of Representative folks and then make sure the guys at the SEC and FDIC get their fair share of perks too.

Funny how all these guys, when they leave, drift over to new employment as spokesmen, lobbyists, and board members for the banks. Just seems like they go in circles.

Work for the government, loose an election or quit, work for a bank, then back to the government in an appointed post. Never really ever having to do a days work in their whole lives!

As long as the citizens of the USA tolerate these shenanigans by regulators and appointed representatives, there will be no change in the way the government and banks are stealing their wealth.

Remember - this is the first time in history that the children of the "Baby Boomer" generation will have a lower standard of living than what their parents had.

All brought to you be the US Government, the big banks and the multi-national conglomerates.

Fines are supposed to hurt a company and the wrong doers are supposed to go to jail.

An $83 Million fine does noting to stop JP Morgan from breaking the law again in a year or two.

When dealing with the banks, the Justice Department and Treasury give out slaps on the wrist, a wink of the eye with expectations of seeing the same banks, a few years later, for breaking the law once again.

It proves once again, that if you have enough money, you are above the laws that govern the average citizen.

Disgusting.

Cheers for now.

The dailey raping and pillaging of America. They get bailed out so they can give out multi-billion dollar bonuses as they forclose on your home. These people are criminals and should be jailed. Why aren't they? Is it their million dollar donations to the people who are supposed to enforce the laws? Or the ones who make the laws? Good HUB that is unfortunatley happening on a regular basis in our country or should I say "their" country,

You are totally right. What sure looks like crooks to me sit behind job titles and systems of the machinery of finance and government knowing full well they are not accountable in any way for the "company" or the "agency" takes the blame and the crooks themselves just move on to the next scam and the tax payers have to foot the bill.

"Funny how all these guys, when they leave, drift over to new employment as spokesmen, lobbyists, and board members for the banks. Just seems like they go in circles." They do go around in circles ... politicians are buisiness men, lawyers ... hardly any of them have a political science degree or a social sciences degree. Most of them have law degrees so they can talk your head-off for an hour and still not answer the question posed to them. It's bloody ridiculous if you ask me.

No wonder you hear stories of politicians getting beaten up in places like Greece and people swarming the motorcade of prince Charles on the streets of London. Many people have had enough of the aristocracy playing around with their lives and making a mockery of the social and justice system.

It is time people stand united against lobbying and crooked career politicians.

Thank you for a great write! Cheers.

Thanks for the comments Peter, poetvix and Mr. Happy,

It seems we 3 are all on the same page on how we feel about our government or lack lack thereof.

It is a start to voice here, but action is needed to change things.

Personal opinion is to not participate in the charade anymore - nothing bought, nothing borrowed.

Only way I could figure out how to do that was to leave the USA.

Currently in Nicaragua, and do not plan on returning to the USA.

Down here it is called what it is - bribery, not a "campaign contribution".

The honesty is refreshing. :)

Thanks again for taking the time to leave comments.

Cheers,

John D. WIlson

PS - that picture is of a vulture that hangs around the hotel I am at - makes me feel like I am right next to the White House.

I knew JP Morgan are crooks but disgusting. ONE day they will face GOD and be accountable. GOD help us all. Greed and more greed. You have a top notch hub of info here. I am shocked that Buffet bailed them out 5 billion. Why would he do something like this? Why not help hunger or something? It is all about money. Well money does not buy anyone into Heaven. God help them all. Thank you for writing this. Up and awesome

Thanks skye2day,

I appreciate the compliment.

The key to understanding what happened is to look at history and the facts.

It is what ever citizen should know and be angry about.

Hope to keep bringing you the facts ma'am, just the facts.

Outstanding hub. We also just learned that our elected representatives are exempt from "insider trading" rules, and are able to make millions in personal income from this loophole in the law. Everyday, we learn of new forms of corruption and greed accepted and practiced by our elected officials as nothing more than the perks that go with the job. It is so correct that a bribe called a campaign contribution is still nothing more than a legal bribe. If we were able to implement term limits and close the financial loopholes, we would most likely have many empty chairs in government. Not many are in these jobs for the sole purpose of serving this great country. No, they are in these jobs for guaranteed wealth and lifetime security.

Hi Old Poolman,

Yupper, the politicians and their "I want to serve" is a crock of beans. Or being impolite, a bunch of BS.

Power, money and control is the "apple" on the tree that attracts those that run for office.

Look at the successful guys in business and they usually want nothing to do with politics because it is so corrupt!

Thanks for taking the time to read the Hub and post a comment. Greatly appreciated.

You just got a new follower and I rarely follow anybody. I'm the founder of a new political non profit, and I'm going to forward this to our analysist (sp) American view here on the hub. You did a great job here.

Well thanks Jim,

Glad to hear I am one of the "chosen" ones, an honour!

Just being a bit nosey, but what is your "non-profit"?

Play nice and travel safely!

As Humphrey Bogart said, "This could be that start of a long friendship."

Hey John,

It's called The Housefire Project, and it's unique. We stay away from lables and bring smart liberals, independents, and conservatives together to wage a non violent war against crooks and their games up on the Hill.

The new web site design will be up in a few days. I'll give you a link to the old and a link to the new which is under construction. In a few days, you'll be able to get to new with the old address.

Here's our site with the old design and pages.

http://housefireproject.com/

This is the new site design under construction. We want it to be interactive so as to keep members updated and ecucated. http://236983916156629365.weebly.com/index.html

We're going to be the eye of an organized productive storm. My only regret is that I didn't get involved and do this a long time ago instead of making money and blowing it for so long.

Hi Jim,

I'll sign up!

Sent you a private email about Zero Hedge, ( a very insightful blog way ahead of the main stream media - http://www.zerohedge.com/) as to what is really going on in the USA.

If "If's and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas."

At least you are doing something now to change things. Some people will never get off their butts to change. At least you did!

John,

My man! Thanks for the link. I'm forwarding it to Mike (Oldpoolman) and George (Americanview). I'm going to get on it this afternoon when I can focus.

We welcome you to the Project. It's all about attitude, focus, and expectations. I'm not the smartest guy in the world, but I'm smart enough to suround myself with very smart people. Welcome aboard!

Smart guy Jim,

If you surround yourself with smart people, sometimes you don't have to think so much!

I'll look forward to more info coming out of your group!
